Winter Ready? Why It’s Time to Service Your AC and Consider an Upgrade

As the temperatures drop across Western Sydney, it’s time to swap the cool for the heat setting on your air conditioner. But before you rely on your AC to keep you cosy this winter, there are a few important things to check, especially after a long, hot summer.

Why Post-Summer Servicing Matters
Your AC has worked hard through months of scorching temps, and all that use can lead to clogged filters, worn components, or low refrigerant levels. If your system hasn’t had a proper service, it might not be running efficiently (or safely) when you need it most.
A winter service ensures:
Your system heats efficiently and evenly
Clean air filters help trap pollutants, resulting in healthier air
No hidden issues go unnoticed
You avoid mid-winter breakdowns (no one wants that!)
At On Call Air Conditioning, we offer full system checks for both split and ducted systems, making sure your unit is ready to go when the chill sets in.

Set It Right: Heating Mode Matters
One of the most common issues we see? Homeowners crank up the temperature without switching their system to heating mode. The result? The AC blows lukewarm air at best, or doesn’t heat at all. Make sure your system is set to “HEAT” mode (not just AUTO or COOL) before adjusting the temperature.

What’s the Ideal Winter Setting?
Running your AC at 26–28°C might seem like the fastest way to warm up, but it actually overworks your system and drives up energy costs.
Instead, we recommend setting your system between 21–23°C. This keeps your home comfortable without placing unnecessary strain on your unit, or your power bill.

Thinking of Upgrading? Now’s the Time
Now’s the perfect time to upgrade to an energy-efficient air conditioner and save while you do it.
Through the NSW Energy Savings Scheme, you could be eligible for a rebate of up to $1,400 on your new system. Whether you’re replacing an old split system or installing a new ducted setup, we make the process simple.
Split systems: Up to $500 back
Ducted systems: Up to $1,400 back
(Eligibility varies. Not all models qualify. ESS compliance required.)
As an approved ESS provider, we handle everything (from the initial assessment to all the paperwork) so you can focus on staying warm without the stress.
